The moon beat the stars to the sky tonight, and there is a reason for that.

July eighteenth, Alameda. I walked down to the edge of the bay just before the light gave up. The water was almost flat, the sky still holding that pale wash near the horizon, deeper blue up top. And there, already high above the far shore, a nearly full moon. Here is the small thing I learned standing there: a full moon rises about when the sun sets, because the Earth is sitting between them. So if you ever catch a bright moon already climbing while the sky is still blue, you are basically watching a straight line in space. Tomorrow night it will come up a little later. Worth a look.
