August 8, 2024. Ponza. I climbed a whitewashed stair above the harbor and watched the light go soft over the boats. Pastel houses in yellow and orange spilled down to the water, and the sky did that slow pink-to-peach trick that islands seem to keep for themselves. A small boat took 4 trips through the rocks, twenty friends gathered for a small ceremony — a white dress, a flower crown, kisses on both cheeks, a wine glass catching the last of the sun. The headlands held the bay like cupped hands. One quiet thing I keep relearning on islands: sunsets here aren't events, they're a shared room everyone wanders into.

An elevated view at sunset overlooking a coastal harbor filled with moored sailboats and yachts, framed by rugged headlands.
