The wires get in every photo on Ponza, and after a while you stop minding.

An elevated panoramic view at sunset over a coastal town with white-washed buildings cascading down toward a harbor filled with boats.

August 10, 2024. Ponza, Latium. I'm standing on someone's roof terrace, more or less by accident, watching the town pour itself down toward the harbor. White cubes stacked on white cubes, washing lines, a tangle of utility wires in the foreground I can't quite edit out. The sun is already low, the sky going orange where it meets the headlands and pink higher up. The boats in the bay have stopped looking like boats and started looking like punctuation. My friends are somewhere in this town. I hope to find them before morning.
