Castel del Piano, Tuscany — August 12, 2024

August 12, 2024. Castel del Piano. I climbed up to the lookout this afternoon and just stood there. Hills folded into hills, all of it forest, a single yellow clearing breaking the green like a thumbprint. Down at my feet, dry grass and scrub at the edge of the drop. The thing I keep thinking about is that canopy. Every one of those trees might be quietly trading with truffles underground — I want to find my way back in the fall.
